I am Mason Horne! A fourth year student at North Carolina State University. Currently I am pursuing a Bachelors of Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. I also plan for a Masters of Computer Science through NCSU's ABM Program.
I'm currently a Software Engineering Intern at Lucid Software where I do web development. In the past I worked as an Intern at SAS and a Co-Op student at Kadro Solutions. I have also worked with the university's OIT office to help with developing mobile applications for both Android and iOS platforms.
I am an Ambassador for the College of Computer Science here at NC State and I also help to organize the annual Hack_NCState Hackathon . I'm also a member of the Competitive Programming club. When I have days off (harder to find with each passing day), I spend them with my dog Igor and playing Golf!
When I came to NC State, I didn't have any previous experience with Computer Science. During my freshman year intro CSC courses, I was introduced to my first for-loops. Ever since then, I have become fascinated by the subject, leading me to spend most of my free time trying to learn as much as I can about this interesting field. I have always enjoyed solving puzzles since I was younger, which I later realized is at the heart of almost every problem in Computer Science. I knew that this was what I was supposed to do with my life. Computer Science allows me the ability to tackle problems in an entirely new way. Before coming to NC State, I would have never expected to be giving myself extra projects to do. However, after discovering the possibilities and enjoyment that come with working on them, I don't see myself ever stopping.
I just started off spring semester and ended up taking a break from side projects over the holidays! My fiance gave me an electric keyboard for Christmas so I have been spending a lot of time learning how to play that. I also picked up textbook on system architecture and have been spending some time reading through that to prepare for another project I want to work on.
